White border looks cool. Something I may use within my QT brief, make it something that will help pull the set together.

The suitcase in pulp fiction may be an interesting way to package the dvds.

Looking at other ways of using halftone. I like the colour overlay below and the interesting use on the shirt.

Halftone faces

Looking as halftone on faces which is what I want to achieve for the QT brief. Bigger gaps looks really good like the eye below.

DVD Covers

Looking at DVD covers it made me think that I need to add more of the technical stuff to my dvd covers. Also it showed me that the backs of teh covers look way to busy and I want to create something  more minimal .

Tarantino Album

I thought the 'blood' splattered style worked well with this album cover. The 'the' within the 'T' also is a cool touch.

Halftone

Some more examples of use of halftone. 

top - Typography with a big gap between each dot. Makes it look more rough, I think thats what I want to got for. Something more hand made sorta feel.

Bottom - Very subtle use of half tone blended with solid lines. Looks more slick and computer-fied where as I want a hand rendered look almost screen print like, imperfections etc.

Minimal Posters

I found these minimal posters for the films I'm designing for. I think that this 'minimal' thing is just way over done these days. So for the front covers of the dvds I am not going to do anything like this. But perhaps on the inside, perhaps behind the actual dvd as I have clear DVD trays.

Big Kahuna

I was thinking about how to package the dvds in a different and original way when I thought of Big Kahuna Burger which is a fictional burger restaurant which appears in 4 of Tarantinos films.

I thought I could package the dvds in a paper bag like this, seen in From Dusk Till Dawn. 

Tarantino fans who would be buying the box set would love this quirky packaging.

Same same but different

Found a student who basically has the same idea as me. Doing a box set of Tarantino films. But I don't really like what they've done. It's good to see competition though.

Box sets by other films directors. I think just having a simple typographic on the outside of packaging will work well.

Rubber Bands

Thought this was a clever and minimal way to secure/package a cd /dvd. Although I can't help but feel that it would be annoying and fiddly to open.

Simple

The bold colours against black really helps the design pop out. Could be something to consider for my DVD packaging brief.

Pull Out

This is a clever way of putting dvd cases together. It keeps it hidden and together which would stand out on a shelf.

Design Approach

I think one way I could approach the Tarintino brief is though an inspiration from a half tone feel like the images below. There could be a subtle use like the 'Tron' poser which just uses the half tone style in the background or I could use it all over like image 2. I think the use of half tone and colour in the last image is very interesting and could be taken and developed in my brief.

Looking into some interesting packaging for DVD's that could inspire my for my Tarintino Project. The simple and minimal card sleeve in the 2nd image is an interesting take on the usual thin dvd case. I also think the digi pack style in the 1st image looks sleek. I think how the 3rd image flows the graphics from the package to the dvd also is a really nice touch.
